Mobile search will change in a big way!
Today, April 21, Google is making a major update to its mobile search algorithm that will change the order in which websites are ranked when users search for something from their phone.
Over the next 10 days they will be rolling out the update, If you do not ensure that your website meets Google’s new mobile-friendly criteria, your website’s rankings will suffer, thus resulting in a decrease of visitors. Even if your website is “responsive”, or has a “mobile friendly” version, it may not meet Google’s criteria. It is very important to make sure that it passes the Google mobile friendly test. This update will impact only mobile searchers and it will give a ranking boost to mobile-friendly pages in Google’s mobile search results only. It will have no impact on your desktop. Only smart phones will be affected.
Usually, Google doesn’t pre-announce algorithm tweaks. But Mobilegeddon could have such a dramatic impact on mobile search results that Google opted to give businesses time to get ready. In February, the search company released a “mobile-friendly” test, which allows websites to see whether their sites are ready for the algorithm tweak. Mobile websites with unplayable videos, slow mobile pages and blocked image files will get knocked down a peg.
Fortunately there is an automated tool that will scan your website to ensure it is in line with Google’s definition of “mobile-friendly”. If your website passes, then you have nothing to worry about. However, if there are issues, you can find out exactly what you need to fix to comply with the April 21st update. To see the status of your website, click the link below.
